MVT Modem/Router Options

---

MVT has delivered advanced communication solutions to Moapa Valley for over 100 years. Over the years, we’ve expanded and strengthened our network and discovered that your Internet is only as good as the equipment delivering it. One of the most important pieces of equipment is your modem or router. This is your point of access to the world and we want it to meet your needs now and in the future. It also needs to allow MVT to troubleshoot your connection remotely.

For many years MVT has depended on the reliability and the leading-edge technologies developed by both Comtrend and Mikrotik. We are excited to offer some of their exceptional products to you. Click the links below to check out some of the modems/routers we use. Other routers are under evaluation.

Tell me about the WiFi in the Basic Routers

The Standard Routers support the 802.11n standard. While not as sexy and fast as 802.11ac, the “n” standard supports a theoretical speed of 300 Mb. With a decent (2 out of 5 WiFi “bars”), 802.11n can easily support a 15 Mb Internet speed.

Tell me about the WiFi in the Premium Routers

The Premium routers support the 802.11ac standard and have 4 X 4 MU-MIMO with a 400 mW radio. For non-geeks, this means that there are 4 transmitting antennas and 4 receiving antennas. These multiple antennas combine to support some really fast speeds (1.8 Gb, theoretical). The “MU” stands for multiuser, meaning that the router can talk to more than one device at a time which is something that that current WiFi routers can’t do. The router also can use the multiple antennas to focus the signal on a specific device which along with the 400 mW of power extends the coverage of your router.
